Arch259: Design Charrette.

Kicking off the new semester, our seminar students in the class Arch259 – Flexible Hybrid Structures at the Jacobs Institute of Design Innovation started the class with a Design Charrette in the spirit of Frei Otto and his team the Institute for Lightweight Structures (IL). Inspired by his soap film studies, we playfully explored the design possibilities of combining bending-active rods with minimal surfaces. Based on our gained hands-on insights, we want to learn next how to recreate these types of structures digitally and dive into form-finding and physics simulation in Grasshopper and Kangaroo.
